Akumo and institution share
Using Akumo is free. There is no onboarding fee, no subscription and no monthly cost. We only earn when you do.
The Akumo share
A share is deducted from every sale. Your rate is agreed with you personally before we activate your account, and it is the only thing Akumo charges you.
The Akumo share applies to your own share of a sale, not to what a student pays. If you teach with a book from the marketplace, your Akumo share  applies to your margin, and the author pays their own Akumo share on their marketplace price.
What the Akumo share covers
Everything: hosting your books, running your classes, processing payments and supporting you and your students.
This includes the Paystack transaction fees. They are not deducted from your share, Akumo covers them out of the service fee.
Institution share
If your account is connected to an institution, that institution receives a share of your earnings. The percentage is agreed individually and comes out of your share, not out of the student's payment.
Connecting to an institution is optional. Whether it makes sense for you is something to settle with your institution, not with us.
Seeing it per sale
Every sale on your earnings page can be opened to show how the amount came about. What you see depends on the type of sale.
For a sale in your own class, you see what the student paid, the Akumo share, your institution's share if you have one, and what is left for you. For a book you took from the marketplace, the author's marketplace price is shown as well, because it comes off before your margin.
For your own book sold in someone else's class, you see your marketplace price, the Akumo share and your institution's share. You do not see what that lecturer charges their students.
